Using 8-core Mac Pro with Radeon 4870. Loaded with 10.6.2. Picture in FCP 6.05 was working fine with Matrox 2.1.5 beta, but audio wasn't working so I upgraded to 2.1.5.02 and now monitor works as a 2nd monitor, but not for color grading or Matrox purposes. What's going on?

Hi,
Can you explain what you mean that you can't do color grading? Do you mean it stopped working?
Are you using the beta drivers from here: http://forum.matrox.com/mxo/viewtopic.php?t=2095
Please note the following message from that page:
Quote:
For ATI graphic card users, make sure to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6 or 10.6.1 only. ATI graphic cards will not work under Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and MXO 2.1.5 beta drivers.

Let us know, thanks.

I don't know how to downgrade to 10.6.1. Regardless- I eventually will need to upgrade to 10.6.2 or the upcoming 10.6.3 for other functions on my computer so although this is may be a temporary fix there must be a Snow Leopard Matrox patch that works for later versions...

Hi,
Nothing is broken with the Matrox drivers.
Their updates fixed or broke an audio issue (depending on which display card you use).

We are also hoping that with the 10.6.3 update will keep the fix for Nvidia and repair the broken ATI fix that existed.

However this was for the audio problem. You mentioned that color-grading is an issue. Is this still the case?

Best regards,
-Mac

Gotcha. Not having an issue with color grading besides being unable to use Matrox with current OS. Well, I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed for that. I would really like to use my Matrox for what I bought it for- color grading. I know you guys are up against Apple's constantly changing things around, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Do you mean to say that the MXO is currently not working at all with your current OS?

This is what I said in my initial post. I cannot get an image in 10.6.2. I was able to using the beta of the current Matrox software but now I have no image and I get a message that says "unable to find deck" or something to that effect. And the option for Matrox audio is greyed out.

Hi,
I know you've re-installed already, but I had this work for a few other people, so it is worth a try.

Can you try the following:
1) Un-install the MXO software.
2) Power down your computer.
3) Unplug the MXO A/C power cord from the wall (or back of the MXO unit) for 10 seconds.
4) Plug the A/C cord back in.
5) Power on the computer.
6) Install the MXO beta drivers.
7) After installation is complete, do steps #2, #3, #4 and #5 again.

Check the Device tab in the MXO system Preferences and verify that it looks correct.

Let me know if this works (or not).

Best regards,
-Mac

So I've finally got around to trying out the reload, etc and I've somewhat restored picture the Matrox- however playback is quite stuttery and audio still distorted. Mind you this is still on OS 10.6.3. I am editing XDCAM EX footage shot at 1080p and thus have created an Easy Setup using the Matrox XDCAM setting and the Matrox 1080p YUV setting.

I believe I have followed directions as they were suggested and although I know this software apparently isn't compatible with the operating system I'm running, I'm still a bit disappointed. I can now color correct, but not really play back in real time (it looks like it's dropping frames).

Hi,
Are the dropped frames showing on the Canvas Window AND the MXO output monitor or just on the MXO output?

Assuming that your CPU and HDDs are capable of handling the playback, here are a few tips for improving performance.

On a FCP Timeline (sequence) click on it and set the following:
Unlimited RT
Playback Video Quality = High
Playback Frame Rate = Full

Disable the Mirror on desktop option to provide better playback performance.
To do this, start Final Cut Pro, and choose Final Cut Pro >
Audio/Video Settings
, click the AV Devices tab, and then clear the Mirror on desktop option under Playback Output.

Let me know if this helps.

I just tried your suggestion and it didn't change anything with the playback. It's still stuttery.

Hi,
So this was working previously when you were in Leopard, right?

If so, do you think it was the Snow Leopard upgrade or was it the FCP upgrade that started causing this behavior?

Thanks,
-Mac
