Hello

I'm using Color 1.5 and FC7, if I'm grading or editing everything starts working fine, but after 5 to 10 mins or so my second display(MXO) begins to slow down and the images feeding it become delayed and very slow to update(compared to my main monitor), to the point I have to save what I'm doing and restart the application, then it all starts up fine with quick video updates, but then it slows down again, and the cycle repeats itself

is anyone else having this problem?

is this a Snow Leopard problem?

mainly when grading HD, did a SD project no delay.

after a while it becomes anoying, having to stop and restart FC7 when editing or Color when grading.

my setup

MacPro early 2008
snow leopard 10.6.1
Nvidia GTX 285
18 gigs or RAM
5 drive internal raid 0 500mb/sec read/write
1 drive for booting and apps.
FC7.0.1
Color 1.5.1

thanks in advance

Hi there

I'm having exactly the same issue with FCP 7.01 and Leopard 10.5.8.
It does not appear to be related to MXO hardware or software as I've uninstalled and taken MXO out of the chain and problem still exists. I think it's a bug in FCP 7.

I've discovered an alternative to restarting FCP all the time - option key and Function 12 key pressed together refreshes external AV devices, ie your monitor and it works properly again .. at least for a while.

This problem has manifested recently for me, I'm wondering if it was induced by the recent pro applications update that Apple released via software update.
The other possible suspect is FCP assistant 1.06 that I recently installed.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has found a definitive cause and or solution.

2009 3.06 imac
ATI Radeon HD 4850
Leopard 10.5.8

Hi csound.

good to hear I'm the only one, well, but sorry for both of us.

so you sugget to start from scratch to solve this problem, is that what you had to do to eliminate the problem?, wipe the drive clean, or just FC7 re-install?

do you use Color?

I just have so much to re-install to go ahead with the clean slate option, I wonder if there's an easier way to solve this.

Thanks.

Claudio

Hi Claudio,

Can you verify as well if your issue occurs without the MXO installed?

Regards,
Sam

Hi Claudio

The problem is a bug in the Pro Applications update issued some weeks back that updates FCP from version 7.0 to 7.0.1

Someone has worked out a fix - as I mention in my previous post, follow this link:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2215145&tstart=0

You'll find a solution to this problem. Read the 4th and 8th posts.

It fixed the issue stuttering images on external monitor, FCP and Color is working fine now - including with MXO.

Thanks guys for the response, I did the ""DesktopVideoout.component""

thing, It might have fixed FC but the problem remains in Color 1.5.1.

I've tried grading R3d files in color and 720p hd and the problem re-occurs.

csound, so the problem has completely disappeared for you?

what kind of material are you grading in Color? format , size, HD, R3d, Sd?

thanks in advance

Playback in Color 1.5.1 is not as smooth as FCP but it's always been that way on my system through MXO.

Not a problem for me as it doesn't affect the way I grade.

XDCAM 108025p footage.
