To all MXO2 users,

The Matrox HDMI Calibration Utility is designed to identify and correct five different factors (White Point, Black Level, White Level, Gamma, Hue/Chroma) inherent to monitors that may affect the accuracy of the video that is being displayed.

The first step in the calibration utility verifies if your HDMI monitor is scaling the output image as two of the five factors (Gamma, Hue/Chroma) require that the monitor output on a 1:1 pixel-for-pixel basis. However, there are a number of additional signal processing features in a monitor that are used to "enhance" the image.
Ideally, you should disable all the automatic signal processing options found in your monitor before calibrating your monitor, however, it may not always be possible to do so. Like scaled output images, our tests have concluded that these automatic processing features might impact the calibration.

Consequently, we will be modifying the scaling verification graphic in the first step to include a processing verification section as well. If you find that there is additional processing being applied by your monitor, we ask that you proceed in the same manner as you would were there scaling occurring. Namely, skip the Gamma calibration steps in order to use your monitor's default Gamma response levels, and use a third-party blue-only filter to calibrate your monitor's Hue and Chroma using the calibration utility's blue-only filter method.

Although you would not have run as complete a calibration as with monitors that offer true 1:1 pixel mapping with no additional signal processing, the fact that the white point, white/black levels, and colors (hue and chroma) have been verified will certainly be of benefit.

Best Regards,

Matrox HDMI Calibration Utility update in latest MXO2/Mojito MAX 2.4 software release

Some HDMI monitors apply additional signal processing to the output, which may impact monitor calibration. The new Matrox HDMI Calibration Utility now includes a procedure to verify if your HDMI monitor applies additional processing to the output, and instructions on how to calibrate an HDMI monitor that processes the output. In short, if you find that there is additional processing being applied by your monitor, you will need to proceed in the same manner as you would were there scaling occurring. Namely, skip the Gamma calibration steps in order to use your monitor's default Gamma response levels, and use a third-party blue-only filter to calibrate your monitor's Hue and Chroma using the calibration utility's blue-only filter method.

Best Regards,
