Hello JonLee and thank you for your interest in Matrox products. The Matrox MPEG2 I-Frame is a codec like any other, once you have installed any of our I/O devices the codec will be enabled for use in Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, Windows Media player, and many more Media playing softwares. The most common workflow is once recorded the footage is taken into Adobe PP and then encoded in Adobe Media Encoder. Our user manual is located online here:
If you are sending this file to a user that does not have Matrox installed on their computer you can easily send them the link here for PC:
and for MAC:
All of our manuals and and software on this page here:

Post subject: Matrox MPEG2?
Can you please clarify "Matrox MPEG2 I-Frame" vs standard "MPEG2 I-Frame"? The name, unexplained, implies that once recorded i cannot play this file with VLC Media Player or other. This would make the recording useless.
Is it that once recorded i would have to use Wirecast to view/edit/output to standard MPEG2 I-FRAME, or AVI, etc?
Sorry to ask but your website has no link to a manual, or details on this.
