A short while after a 64-bit Premiere Pro.

See my post here for full details.

Hello,
We are grateful for your interest related to a 64-bit O/S to work in conjunction with the RTX2. In the spirit of keeping our Product Development Team aware of contributions related to the future 64-bit platform, which as it stands, is still in the works, we have moved this thread to the Product Feature Enhancement section of the RTX2 Userforum.
You are welcome to continue providing your input on the topic.
Thanking you once again.

I have spoken with Adobe regarding this when I built my system. They actually recommend the use of 64-bit with Adobe Premiere Pro. Even thought it isn't a native 64 bit application, it benefits from the extended address space available. The application can have 3GB just for it, which is supposed to be a significant benefit, especially when editing HD. So I find the comment about making drivers available only after 64-bit Premiere Pro is available to be irrelevent.
Regards,
Dave Berry

I am using Production Premium CS4 on Vista 64 on a computer with 16GB ram, and it's quite wonderful, when doing complex dynamic link stuff, to see how each application is using so much memory! I haven't quite got to the maximum ram usage per application (which I believe is 4GB), but it'll come!

The only thing that I am using XP for now is editing with the RT.X2. Am looking forward to working with it in Vista.

It has to be said, though, that CS4 does bring a whole 'nother layer of complexity to the table in terms of how Matrox might have to configure their drivers: these are the things that I can see proving difficult:
1. In a Premiere CS4 project you can have sequences with different settings, so for example you could have a DV sequence and an HDV sequence and an ADCHV sequence. Matrox'll have to find a way to get this working with RT.X2.
2. The dynamic link is more complex in some respects. Rather than creating a new AE project or importing a current one and then placing it on the timeline, is CS4 you can select a group of clips and say "create new after effects comp from selected clips"
3. The dynamic link with Encore is also v. sophisticated. I haven't played with this properly, but basically it's Premiere within Encore. No intermediate rendering.
4. The whole way that rendering out/exporting is done has changed. The Adobe Media encoder is a seperate module, so you say "export" and it opens the Media encoder where you specify the various parameters you'd like to export the file - and you can do lots at the same time - it's a bit like procoder - and then you can render away in the background while you're back working in Premiere. It's great. Well, maybe not so great for the tea breaks.... no more render breaks!! But how does Matrox accelerate that render as we've been used to with the RT.X2?

All these are problems which the Matrox team will have to solve before they can get CS4 drivers out the door, let alone 64bit ones!!

Of course we all want the drivers now! But I can forgive Matrox if they're not available 'till next week Smile

Practically, though, Matrox will at least need to get 32bit drivers ASAP since CS4 is now shipping and you can't buy CS3 anymore...
