just found out about this item - http://www.v3hd.com/

I assume this wouldn't work inline with the RTx2? ..

What advantage does the RTx2 have over this unit?.

Brett.

Hi Brett,

The RT.X2 and the V3HD are two entirely different products, aimed at different markets.

For those editing DV or HDV, and primarily delivering on DVD or Blu-Ray, the RT.X2 is excellent. Has all the I/O one would need, plus REALTIME EFFECTS which is the main selling point, no need to render timelines !!

The V3HD is mainly an I/O device for multiple formats conversion. Once you actually capture the footage, everything must be rendered, no realtime or acceleration is provided at all. So, if your studio is constantly working with a wide variety of high-end formats to accomodate various clients, then you may have a need for something like that.

If you have your own video business doing corporate, event or wedding video and shoot DV or HDV, then the RT.X2 is the way to go if you don't use SDI, AES/EBU, etc.

For those working with SDI, etc. Matrox does offer the Axio line which also has all realtime effects and transitions.

I'd be glad to discuss your needs and workflow options if I can help, just PM me or contact the shop

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

The only rendering you will do with the MOTU is transitions, and at this juncture it has a ROM chip that natively supports DVC Pro HD much as the new AJA suports Proress 422. I think many folks are looking to see what this product will really do. The specs are impressive and it will deliver many things that the RTX and even AXIO LE will not.

I had a very in-depth demo of the V3HD just yesterday, and while it is incredible, it is VERY different product from the the RT.X2.

As you mentioned, it takes almost ANY input format and converts it to DVCPRO or DVCPRO HD and sends to PC via Firewire for editing. The timeline can be played back and output to practically any format as well, with the V3HD hardware handling the audio/video format conversions.

That said, it offers NO acceleration of transitions or filters within Premiere - anything that normally needs rendering still needs rendering.

The RT.X2 is designed to work natively with DV and HDV and provide a realtime workflow for effects and layering. It is not advertised to handle uncompressed, SDI, XLR, or any of that.

You and I have had lengthy discussions about this previously, and I understand your studio has certain professional needs. Please contact me if we can discuss a solution for those needs.

Thank you
