Hi All

A problem with capuring Matrox HDV 1080i files from the component input to Rtx2 card.

The vision and audio are fine in the capture window and viewable in WISIWIG on the monitor.

When I click the record button in the capture window it records for about ten seconds then starts dropping frames. Not just one or two but several seconds at a time. I end up with ten seconds of picture and then 3 or 5 seconds of black and a constant series of black and pictures black pictures until PrPro crashes after around 45 seconds.

I have Adobe Premiere Pro 4.2.1 running with Matrox build 177

Images are input to RtX2 component box and configured for component input using Matrox AVI. I'm using the Matrox 1440 x 1080i @ 25fps and the output material is 1920 x 1080i

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Hi Greg,

Is this something that used to work, and just started giving trouble, or is this a new workflow for you?

Are you capturing to a dedicated video drive, and is it defragged and have plenty of space available?

Thanks

Hi Greg,

What device are you capturing from?
Have you tried capturing from 1394 firewire port?

Please let us know your results.

Hi Jeff, Sam

Jeff first. This is an established dedicated edit system about 18 months old and has been fine to date. All is fine with standard DV recordings which are recorded to a 2Tb video drive with 900mb available. I have updated all drivers and there is no antivirus installed. I recorded from the same camera earlier this year using Adobe PrPro 4.1 CS4 without any issue. I don't recall the exact settings I used and not sure if anything has changed with the later update.

I did note the output from the camera is 1920 x 1080i and I'm capturing at 1440 x 1080i. From my understanding the 1920 is down converted to 1440 on capture.

Sam, there is no 1394 output only component. It's a JVC GZ-HD7AA hard drive handy cam. I'll run some test records from my JVC deck which has 1394 and record HDV.

Thanks guys.

Greg

Hi Greg,

When you said the drive has 900mb available, I hope that's a typo and you meant 900GB Wink

Also, are you working in PAL territory? I assume so since using the 25fps preset.

Thanks

Hi Jeff

Sorry, yes typo 900GB is correct, it's about half full. Also I have checked the HDV capture from my JVC BR HD50 deck and recording 720p is fine.

Cheers

Hi Greg,

Please specify what type of system you are running. What is your OS version?
Are you running latest updates for your motherboard, windows?
Do you have a 3rd-party sound card? on-board audio?
Are you running the latest audio drivers?

Would it be possible to use you 1394 source to capture the footage from tape?

Hi Sam

Sorry for the delay in getting back. System details are below. All audio drivers are up to date and I'm running with the onboard audio. No 3rd party sound card. Windows is up to date and HDV captures fine via the 1394 from another tape deck.

I believe there is an issue with 1394 capture from the JVC GZ-HD7AA hard drive handy cam as the 1394 is only configured for dubbing to another source. I have never been able to get 1394 out of the camera but the component has been fine in the past.

regards
Greg

Hi Greg,

To confirm, you mentioned the system has been defragged?
Also, if you are capturing through RT.X2 Component signal, then your capture format is Matrox Mpeg2-HD Iframe. Can you confirm this is correct by verifying your video capturing settings?
Have you tried lowering the data rate for Mpeg2 HD codec? Does this help?

Have you tried capturing to a different drive as a test? Ex. root drive or OS drive?

In the past, some users reported similar issues with drop frames/black flashes on capture using onboard audio. When they installed a 3rd-party audio card, the issue no longer occurred.
Would you happen to have an extra 3rd-party sound card to test?

Please let us know your results.

Thanks Sam

Will check settings and try 3rd party audio card and get back to you. Might be a couple of days.

Thanks
Greg

Hi Sam

Problem fixed. I installed a Creative Sound Blaster audio card and disabled the onboard audio which improved the problem but didn't totally fix the problem. I was still getting dropped frames but less often.

This revalation indicated the system was running low on speed so I backed off the capture data rate from 90mbps to 80mbps and it was rock solid from there on. A two hour capture was no problem.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Regards
Greg
