|
|
Hi MATROX,
I have to get a new editing system.
Currently I work mainly with this system (PAL):
Win2000 + 1G RAM + Targa 3000
Premiere 6.5 + Combustion
Raid 0 with 8xHD Seagate Cheetah 32G
Sony Betacam Player J-30SDI
Sony Monitor PVM-20L2
Sony HVR-Z1E
The image from the Targa is terrific for YUV and DV, but I have to capture DV and HDV on a laptop with CS3 from 1394 of the Z1.
I have to move on FASTERRRRRRRR
I do mainly corporate videos (3 to 20min), some commercials and DVD authoring. I need to do BD.
50% of my work is in Premiere. The other 50% on Combustion.
Mostly because Combustion is SLOWWWWW with the Targa.
Maybe one day I will move to AfterEffects. Not soon.
For the moment I shoot with the Z1 and have no plans to replace it on a very near future.
Basicly HDV and DV.
I forgot the last time I've captured from my Betacam...
I deliver all work on DVD or Flash/mp4 for the NET.
I would like a new system to work with CS4 and the next CS5 in real time as much as possible.
Because of money and because I do not see material come in other formats, seems to me that an RT-X2 is the best option over AXIO.
- Correct?
I've read some post here and have some questions for now:
- the video out on the BOB in YUV is top quality?
I want to still work with my CRT Sony PVM for SD material
- If I connect the DVI out from RT-X2 to a consumer LCD or LED screen (Sony, Samsung, LG, ...), do I get a proper/decent image for HD out?
I want to have the same type of image that the average Joe has at home with a 'standart' system.
- On the DVI out I get HD and SD out. Correct?
I admit that the SD image from that DVI has not the same quality that the one from YUV, but will give me an idea on how people will see a SD on a Flat screen at home.
- should I use a MXO2 mini to get HDMI also?
- Do I have any advantage on using it?
- I'm planning to use a CompressHD. Is it compatible?
Do I get real advantage with the CompressHD + RT-X2 ?
- What is the very best configuration that you advise for the momment.
on the website the best I can find was Vista64 + ASUS P6T Deluxe + NVIDIA GeForce GTX280
- will a Quadro FX or CX will give much better results?
I say this because NVIDIA claims that a CX is the ONE...
But they talk on a soft only solution
- I've read somewhere that Premiere likes more the GTX280 than the 295 because the 295 has 2 processors and Premiere does not take profit from them (??)
- 2x GTX280 on SLI is good for Video or not so much?
- The OS should be VISTA 64-bit.
Please clarify me the WYSIWYG question.
With VISTA 64-bit what signals do I have on the DVI and YUV out's with what soft's.
Combustion does not proffit from +4G RAM, but Premiere and AE will do.
Last, but not the least.
Is there a new board on the way?
Will you lauch a RT-X3 in a couple of months?
The RT-X2 has some time already, and I don't want to be thast one to buy it ... ...
Please, answer me on all items.
Any sugestion is quite welcome.
Sincerely
Manue F. |

Do you mean that the DVI outputs only 1920x1200 ?
If I connect the DVI to, for ex., a regular consumer Sony BRAVIA TV, that is prepeared to accept 1920x1080, does the image will be streached in any way? |

Hi Tuga and thanks for your interest in Matrox products...Please see answers below:
| Quote: | | Because of money and because I do not see material come in other formats, seems to me that an RT-X2 is the best option over AXIO. Correct? |
Based on your described workflow and on the type of footage you normally work with, the RT.X2 would be the product to consider. However if you think that your future projects would require you to work with high-definition, then I would recommend the Axio LE product, even if you don't have an immediate need to salvage all its features and capabilities. Perhaps this PDF file would be of some benefit in deciding which product to go with.
| Quote: | | The video out on the BOB in YUV is top quality? I want to still work with my CRT Sony PVM for SD material |
Absolutely, you can even specify various settings to configure your video output signals from the RT.X2 breakout box. (You'll gain full-screen monitoring via all its analog video outputs)
| Quote: | | If I connect the DVI out from RT-X2 to a consumer LCD or LED screen (Sony, Samsung, LG, ...), do I get a proper/decent image for HD out? I want to have the same type of image that the average Joe has at home with a 'standart' system. |
Yes you will, as long as your DVI monitor supports the video resolution of your video output. For full-resolution HD monitoring, your DVI monitor must support a display resolution of (1920x1200). RT.X2 provides superior HD video definition, with pixel-to-pixel mapping on a flat panel (1920 x 1200), than you will get on a more expensive professional HD monitor which is typically limited to approximately 800 lines of resolution.
| Quote: | | On the DVI out I get HD and SD out. Correct? |
Yes, form the RT.X2 DVI port, you will get both HD and SD output.
| Quote: | | Should I use a MXO2 mini to get HDMI also? Do I have any advantage on using it? |
You can not install the MXO2 Mini and the RT.X2 in the same system because both products would try to use the same computer recourses and that would create performance issues.
| Quote: | I'm planning to use a CompressHD. Is it compatible?
Do I get real advantage with the CompressHD + RT-X2 ? |
The Matrox compressHD will work in systems with or without a video I/O device and could extend the life of your current system investment, giving you the power you need to deliver H.264 formats faster than realtime.
| Quote: | | What is the very best configuration that you advise for the momment. On the website the best I can find was Vista64 + ASUS P6T Deluxe + NVIDIA GeForce GTX280 |
I would agree with your proposed system (ASUS P6T Deluxe / NVIDIA GeForce GTX280), but please note that we also validated the new HPZ400 computer which preformed very good as well.
| Quote: | | will a Quadro FX or CX will give much better results? |
The Quadro FX are good performance cards but the GTX seemed to give better results on the ASUS motherboard you have in mind (P6T Deluxe). The CX is only more of a software based solution, as you mentioned above.
| Quote: | | 2x GTX280 on SLI is good for Video or not so much? |
I can't really comment on this setup and how the performance will compare to a single card since we have not tested this SLI configuration with the RT.X2 product.

The Matrox RT.X2 will work with Microsoft Windows Vista Business or Ultimate (32- or 64-bit), or Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit) with Service Pack 3. The Matrox RT.X2 includes a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) video output plug-in for Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop that lets you see your work directly on your video monitor. The Adobe Dynamic Link feature is supported so you can work in After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro simultaneously and Alt+Tab between the applications. The video output will change to show the output of the active application. The WYSIWYG plug-in also supports Autodesk Combustion and 3ds Max, eyeon Fusion, and NewTek LightWave 3D. This feature lets you ensure proper 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios in NTSC or PAL, and check for exact color temperature, safe-title area, and any interlace artifacts that may be present in your images. You can also view the alpha channel of your output on the video monitor to check for defects. (Please note however that this WYSIWYG feature applies to 32-bit application versions only).
| Quote: | | Last, but not the least. Is there a new board on the way? Will you lauch a RT-X3 in a couple of months? The RT-X2 has some time already, and I don't want to be thast one to buy it |
We introduced our new product lineup earlier this year at NAB 2009 convention in Las Vegas, NV. We do not have a new "RT.X3" product to announce; in fact we continually try to enhance our product's feature set with new software driver development for product enhancements.
I hope that my answers help in your purchase decision, however if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,
B.C. |
