Hi,
Can you tell me if Matrox RT.X2 will work with a 64 bit PC, since it looks like Adobe are moving into this territory as soon as August with some of their products.
Thank you
Bernie. |

Hi Bernie,
Unfortunally for you, at this moment Rtx2 doesn't support 64bit O/S,
As u said if Adobe will move to 64bit O/S, I think Matrox will do the same to enable the RTx2 fully works with Adobe Softwares....
But as I said at the moment only 32bit O/S is supported.
Regards

Bernie,
You need a stable 64 bit OS (Vista ain't it yet). with solid 64 bit drivers (Matrox is working on it) and 64 bit Adobe software for the full benefit of a 64 bit world. We will get there, it's just going to take a bit more time.
I just got back from NAB, the Matrox booth was one of the busiest at the show, as was Adobe. I saw some great technology previews in the Adobe booth. When Adobe ships the next versions, it's going to be incredible some of the new stuff you'll be able to do. I have no doubt in my mind Matrox will be ready with driver support when that time comes.

Thank-You Robbo6600,
At the current time, the RTX2 is compatible with the Windows XP-32 bit version. We shall advise our Product Development Team of your interest, and also welcome you to consider this area of our website, dedicated to Vista : http://forum.matrox.com/rtx2/viewforum.php?f=14&sid=e2193dff5bef42bb6f9ae35da60ea681
Also we have noted your post in the Product Feature Enhancement Section of the RTX2 forums.
Your collaboration and interest are much appreciated. |

Dear Videoguys,
You said "I have no doubt in my mind Matrox will be ready with driver support when that time comes", but Matrox is always behind releases of either Microsoft or Adobe. No doubt it will take them a year after their new releases to develop stable (or maybe even the beta) drivers. They have done this in the past and will continue to do so.
The Matrox RT X2 drivers for Vista x86 (32 bits) are still in beta stage, even months after the release of the first Service Pack for Vista! With the SP1, Vista outperformed (in speed) XP Professional on almost all points but Matrox still don't have their first driver release! The x64 version was not even planned so this will probably take at least a year longer.
I can tell you that the new version of the Microsoft Windows OS is planned for Q4 of 2009 already! Though the drivers for that OS will be backwards compatible with Vista, it shows how much latency there is with driver releases for the Matrox products.
Always be aware of this before (thinking of) buying Matrox products.
The end-of-life of Matrox drivers have caused me a lot of trouble several times before...
Regards,
Peter |

Hi x64,
Looks like Matrox will now have time to working on more future releases of OSs now... Vista32 and XDCAM EX are here, this copied from the Press:
Montreal, Canada, July 3, 2008 - Matrox®Video Products Group today announced that Matrox RT.X2 release 3.6 is now available. Highlights include support for Microsoft Windows Vista Business or Ultimate (32-bit) and realtime playback of Sony XDCAM EX .mp4 clips.
"This latest software release lets users take full advantage of Sony’s popular new XDCAM EX camcorders,” said Pierre-Martin Dion, Matrox product manager. “The Matrox RT.X2 platforms provide a huge productivity boost with realtime native editing of all HQ- and SP-mode resolutions and frame rates. Users can even mix their XDCAM EX footage in real time with HDV, P2 MXF, and SD material on Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 timelines."
Additional features of Matrox RT.X2 v3.6 include realtime capture of SD material directly to .m2v files via analog and 1394 input for immediate DVD authoring with Adobe Encore, as well as new realtime garbage matte effects with adjustable edge softness and opacity controls.

Hello,
We curently support 32-bit operating systems, however, 64-bit drivers are something that we are working on as it is the natural progression of the various platforms.
Thanks,
B.C. |

Well, now I'm all kinds of confused... not to mention stuck, as well.
My main question is: If I do have Vista 64, does that mean The RT X2 simply will not work, or just not work without issues, or to it's best capacity, or what?
I'm stuck in that I'm on the verge of buying a new computer - I'm scoping out the HP d5000t, as my professional video editor friend / guru swears by HP - and I'm trying to trick it out as much as possible so that (a) it will run as smoothly and quickly as possible, and (b) won't be quite such an obsolete brick in 3 or 4 years as my last computer (2005) has become. Problem is, if you want more than 3 Gs of RAM, you HAVE to outfit it with Vista 64. So if I build the system I want, I apparently can't use the RT X2, it seems. Which kills me, because I love the X10 I've been using for the past 3 years and couldn't wait to upgrade to the X2.
So... am I just outta luck for now, folks? What can I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(And PS: I didn't see the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT on the X2's compatibility chart. Anyone know if it's ok, or if I'd be happy with the GeForce 9600 GS? Either one has got to be light years ahead of my current system's graphics card, but I'm trying to build my new system to be ahead of the curve as much as can be.)
Thanks again for any input, folks. Take care.

You CANNOT install Matrox drivers in the V64 OS period, the installer is blocked, so until Matrox releases the drivers you will need to be at 32bit in your OS, you can choose Vista 32 or XP32, I dual boot both and they work equally as well on my system with no effects or one being better than the other, however I do have a pref for Vista now.
As well, until Adobe has a 64bit release of Premier (hinted to be later this year) you're still in a 32bit quandary. This topic has been discussed to death in the main forums. |

lombana-
Thank you for your response. I realize I'm probably beating this year's biggest dead horse, but I'm kind of late in the game, as I've only recently started looking into putting my new system together and I'm just now finding out about incompatibility issues between all these different things.
So there's no "emulator" mode for Vista 64 to operate in 32-bit for the Matrox hardware? OK. And I came across one of your posts on this board where you had mentioned you dual-boot XP and Vista on your computer. Unfortunately for me, I don't have the slightest idea how to install a second OS on a computer - I'm not that comp-savvy at this point in time, but it does sound like a wonderful alternative to going without the RT X2. Is there somewhere you can point me to so I can read up on installing XP on my new system? (HP is only selling their computers with Vista pre-installed anymore.) Also, is it possible for me to just use my XP SP 2 install disc from my older computer, or should I just assume Dell registered it to my old computer and I can't re-use it anymore?
Sorry for all these newbie questions. I'm a decent editor, but I'm a big doofus with computers. Your help really is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

On second thought...
I Googled a how-to guide on dual-boot installation and it looks like such a headache (especially for someone with my limited skillset) that I've decided to just keep it simple and flat-out not buy the RT X2 until the 64-bit drivers are released. If I have to bend over backwards or not buy the sytem I want just to accomodate one piece of hardware, it's just not worth it to me anymore.
So all I'll have to do in the meantime is buy a CS3 upgrade for now (saves me a lot of $, too,) and buy the X2 LE whenever it will actually work with my new computer.
Thank you for your help, though. I am grateful that you kept me from making a big mistake.

Robert,
If your goal is to run 64bit then you need to be asking Adobe when they are going to release a 64bit version of Premier, once complete then Matrox can work on the 64bit version of their software. The X2 card is phenomenal for that you just have to trust us users or you can purchase a copy of the DVD from Videoguys that Jeff Pulera produces which dives into the RT.X2 so that you can see what you will gain from having the card, then when you purchase the card you now have an off line tutorial so no wasted $$$.
Don't discount the card because you feel that you need to "accommodate one piece of hardware" as you put it, to me you're trying to accommodate one piece of software ie Vista64.
