Running MAC 10.7.2 and Media Composer 6.0 capture is not working at the 1080psf@23.98 standard (with or without TL reference) We are getting half a picture squished vertically to the top and the bottom half being digital noise and jumping.
Tried 1080i@59.94 with success
Playback of previously digitized material seems ok

To output in 1080psf@23.98 the 'Set Main channel format to:' in the Matrox control panel has to be set to 1080i/psf
To digitize, the problem is an incompatibility between MC6 and the control panel. When setting the Matrox input, the hardware recognizes the psf format but as soon has you go back to MC6 it wants to flip back to 1080p and you get that suqished/jumping signal.
There is only one 1080 at 23.98 type of project in Media composer and it's labelled p only. How internally it handles the p versus the psf difference I have no idea but this has to be fixed!
There is a toggle where you can force a psf OUTPUT.
Is there one for the INPUT side???
Thanks |

To confirm, your final captured clips playback fine, without the vertical squish or digital noise?
As a test, have you tried checking the Video input option to Scale input for capture and then select the 1080PsF setting in Source Format?
Have you tried capturing with Avid Project Format of 1080p/23.976?
We will try the workflow in house and let you know our results. _________________ Regards,

The only media that plays back fine is previously digitized material with an Avid-Adrenaline BOB.
We tried the Scale input to bring it to 1080psf but then captured media is a frame late. Not a good thing when repackaging material that has to be frame accurate. |

Sorry, skipped your second observation,
we always work with the 1080p@23.976 project format
True 1080p@24 is a transport only format that does not offer downconvert capability to NTSC except if you do a speed offset playback.
(Just tought I mentioned it for other people reading the thread and not familiar with the HD formats) |

Hi,
Thanks for the detailed feedback. We have in fact been able to reproduce your issue and have reported it to our engineering department for further investigation.
We hope to have a solution for this in future driver release. _________________ Regards,

Great, let me know if we can do any beta testing on this.
Our workaround for is a bit time consuming..
Thank you! |

Update: F Sauve, if you update to Lion 10.7.3 do you exhibit the same issue of frame accuracy on captures of 1080psf@23.98 with MXO2 3.0 drivers and Avid MC6?
Make sure to check the Video input option to Scale input for capture and then select the 1080PsF setting in Source Format. _________________ Regards,

Hello,
Updated to Mac OS 10.7.3
Also updated to MC 6.0.1
Same frame accuracy issue with scaling
Also when working in Psf, it looks like the segments are inverted
(can send you a sample if needed)
Without scaling, still gets top half of picture squished, bottom half scrambled with whatever happens to be in the playback buffer
Playback of previously digitized material with Nitris DX still ok

Thanks for your reply and feedback.
The correct procedure to capture in this case is to use the Scale input for capture and then select the 1080PsF setting in Source Format.
As for the frame accuracy and inverted segments issue, can you send us a sample clip?
Please see your PM Inbox for more information. _________________ Regards,

Samples have been uploaded
There seems to be an issue between p and psf formats
In the Video Output tab of the Matrox Utilities
(Firmware 34.0 Software 3.0.0.0071)
there are two seperate settings for p and psf
If I leave it in p mode my HDSR deck flips real bad..
Thank you

Thank you for the uploaded files. Unfortunately, we have not been able to reproduce the frame delay/accuracy capture issue.
Can you provide us some detailed steps to reproduce the issue?
What exactly is the frame delay you are seeing on the captured clip?
Have you tried playing back the 1080psf23.98 captured clip via HDMI? Does the same interlaced look occur?
Also, the timeout error you received, can you also provide steps to reproduce? We want to make sure the troubleshooting workflow is the same on our end. _________________ Regards,

Simple setup:
HDCAM-SR, SRW-5800 locked on Trilevel sync 23,976 psf (Evertz)
Direct (3GB qualified hard patch) cable that works with all NLE BOB we have
Remote through the 9 pin RS422 port on MX02
Frame delay is a consistent 1 frame late Picture vs TC as compared to what is actually on the tape (with or without Genlock in the MX02)
The Timeout seems to happen when loading a clip right after digitizing (takes a complete restart to fix)
To HDMI will only work with 1080p (I guess it adds pulldown) same interlace thing. With the main channel in 1080i/1080psf I get no picture
Just tried with HDW-500F, other tape other project same results |

Interesting footnote
My client monitor is a Panasonic BT-LH2550
When in digitize mode it auto locks and displays 1080/23.98p
I double check the A/V Input Tab
Scale input for capture: checked
Source format: 1080PsF
Going back to MC the monitors flips back to 1080/23.98psf
