Hi.
I have a problem with my matrox mxo2mini.
It worked well with macbook pro and avid mc 5.5.
Lately I switched to iMac and mc 6.0 so i needed to buy thunderbolt adapter. I installed drivers for mc 6.0 and updated thunderbolt drivers in lion.
Now I can see in system preferences that mxo2mini is connected and is working because it glows blue. But avid can't see it. Even if I try to calibrate my external monitor in system prefs the display is black all the time. It only blinks for a sec when I change hdmi output to rgb or yuv.
I'll appreciate your help.

Hi marcingolik,

Can you confirm your MXO2 driver which is installed?
What Project Format and output format is being used in Avid?
Have you tried a different output? ie Component?

See page 112-114 of User Guide for supported output formats in Avid:
http://www.matrox.com/video/media/pdf/support/mxo2/doc/en_Matrox_MXO2_Installation_and_User_Guide_3_0.pdf

My driver version is 3.0.0.0071.
I tried to output 1080p/23.976 and 1080i/50 with no result.
There is no Video Output options in settings.
I think the problem is not in avid but in thunderbolt adapter.
Even if I try to calibrate monitor in system settings (not in avid) I can't see test patterns. Monitor only blinks red or green when i change from yuv to rgb.
When I connect mxo2mini to my laptop through expresscard adapter everything works well.

Hi,

Can you load the System Report in Lion and check both PCI cards and Thunderbolt sections?
In PCI cards, you should see a "other multimedia device" and in Thunderbolt you should see a "T/ADP" device.

If you do not see these devices, then you should rescan system for more software updates. Try rebooting the system and rescan for any software updates just in case. This is mentioned in our 3.0 Release Notes:
Quote:
If your computer does not have the latest system update for its Thunderbolt
port, your MXO2 may not be detected when connected to your computer
using the Matrox MXO2 Thunderbolt adapter. To verify if a system update
for the Thunderbolt port is available for your computer, choose Apple >
System Updates
. If a system update is available for the Thunderbolt port,
run the system update, and then reboot your computer. In certain cases, your
computer may require more than one system update. Therefore, after
performing the first system update, repeat this procedure until there are no
more system updates available for your computer's Thunderbolt port.

Also, please verify the Thunderbolt cable that connects to the Matrox Thunderbolt device to the MAC. Make sure the cable is correctly installed, with proper orientation (not upside down).

Please let us know your results.

Thanks for responding so quickly.
I chcecked the system report and there is exactly everything what you wrote. In PCI cards 'other multimedia devices' and in Thunderbolt 'T/ADP' device.
I double checked and I have all the updates in my system.
There is only one way to connect the thunderbolt cable to the computer, would be too hard for me to connect it upside down :].
When I connect the cable to my iMac blue light glows, so I think there's nothing wrong with the connection.

Have you rebooted the system and rescan for System Updates?
What iMac version and model are you running? See our certified systems here: http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/mac/mxo2/system/computers/3.0/

Have you tried other video output signals? ie Component?
Can you try creating a fresh Avid NTSC project and see if this works?
Are you running with HDMI 3D viewing disabled? In System Preferences for MXO2 > Video Output pane, under HDMI 3D Viewing Mode, make sure the option is disabled if you are not running 3D.

Please also make sure:
If your Avid Media Composer project's Stereoscopic setting is anything other than Side by side, Over/Under, or Full, make sure that you set the HDMI 3D Viewing Mode to Disabled. For example, if your project's
Stereoscopic setting is Off or Leading Eye, you must disable this option in
order to properly view the HDMI output.
Fore more information, see page 55 and 56 of User Guide:
http://www.matrox.com/video/media/pdf/support/mxo2/doc/en_Matrox_MXO2_Installation_and_User_Guide_3_0.pdf

As for HDMI calibration issue, see this documented issue in our Release Notes:
Quote:
When using the Matrox HDMI Calibration Utility, an output image may not
appear on your HDMI monitor when selecting a video output format in the
Video Output page. To resolve this issue, select another video format from
the list and then re-select your desired video format. (Ref# VPG-1805)

Please let us know your results to any of these suggestions.

I'm running iMac i7 3,4 GHz and it's a certified system.
I tried everything you wrote and still it's not working.

But I made some other test.
I uninstalled mc 6.0 and matrox drivers, installed avid mc 5.5.3 and 2.3.3.0016 drivers for matrox and everything works perfectly fine!
So my hardware is good, there must be something wrong with drivers or avid mc 6.0.

Hi,

Can you confirm your iMac model indentifier? Go to Apple icon > About this Mac > More Info button. Verify the Model Identifier in Hardware information.

To confirm, your Avid MC6.0/MXO2 3.0 drivers does not work when running expresscard adaptor on your laptop?

Can you try creating an Avid 1080i/59.94 project and see if this works?
Verify your Video Output settings through Avid by going to Avid Media Composer, click Settings in the Project window, double-click Video Output to open the Matrox preferences window, and specify your Matrox video output settings.

Let us know your results.

I confirm.
Matrox mxo2mini doesn't work with mc6.0/3.0 drivers on macbook pro when running expresscard adaptor neither on imac when running thunderbolt adaptor.
It only works with mc5.5/2.3.3 drivers on both computers.

I created 1080i/59.94 project in avid mc 6.0 and still it's not working.

There is no video output settings in avid mc 6.0, so i can't open the matrox prefs window through avid. I can only open this window through my system settings.

In Avid Media Composer, click Settings in the Project window, and then double-click Video Output to open the Matrox preferences window.

As I said, there is no Video Output setting in Settings tab in the Project window, so I can't open it.
