Will I be able to use HDMI out MXO2 to monitor 5.1 sound in Premiere Pro and Audition? In other words, will I be able to actually hear 5.1 and not a 2.0 which is what I get with my current setup through an optical output of my audio card?

Hello and thank you for your interest in Matrox products. The Matrox MXO2 has 6 RCA audio outputs, this allows you to monitor 5.1 surround sound. We do embed 8 channels of audio through HDMI but you might need an unbedder if you want to check each channel individually.

So in Premiere Pro and Audition I will be able to see MXO2 device as an Asio device with six channels available?

Sorry about the delay, we were testing this on the Mac and were not getting consistant test results from these tests. On the Mac side it does not but on the PC side it shows up as an Matrox Asio device.

I was hoping to get an official answer for you today but it might have to wait until tomorrow. I was not able to test it but in theory it is 16 channels through SDI and 8 Channels through HDMI. Also depending on which Matrox MXO2 device you have you can have different channels of input. http://www.matrox.com/video/media/pdf/products/pc/mxo2/en_product_selection.pdf

Hello and thank you for your continued interest in Matrox products. Any captured audio can be assigned from Adobe PP to the Asio device. So the RCA with be stereo, the HDMI and SDI have 8 channels of embedded audio.

That is why I am asking. In theory my sound card outputs 7.1 channels but premiere pro sees only 2 asio channels, hence hard to monitor sound digitally in full 5.1 when mixing. Hopefully MXO2 will show up as 6 channels (or more) in Premiere Pro/Audition.
