Confusion about Multiple Technologies.

I am long term user of Matrox Product (Matrox LE, RTX, AXIOLE)

I am looking to create a new custom build Corei7 (Sandy Bridge) based Editing system with Matrox MXO2 LE.

I have following questions.

1) Is MXO2 LE better than RTX2 or AXIOLE?
2) Is there any Motherboard + GFX Card selection guide available?
3) Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 says (Adobe Murcury Playback) is a new technology which require NVidia Quadro GFX Card. http://www.nvidia.com/object/adobe_PremiereproCS5.html
4)Is there any advantage of purchasing Nvidia Quadro Card?

Hi Ahmer,

The RT.X2 and Axio products are no longer supported after CS5, so the MXO2 line is the natural replacement. MXO2 hardware is different in that it does not supply as many RT effects - all of the Matrox GPU effects are gone, due to Adobe accessing the GPU for their own Adobe Mercury Playback Engine (MPE).

MPE is a set of performance improvements in CS5 and newer, that will work with or without an Nvidia graphics card; however, having the Nvidia card adds additional benefits to MPE, namely more realtime performance and better quality scaling. So, you will definitely want to choose an approved Nvidia card when building a new edit system, it is worth it!

Matrox no longer offers system hardware "recipes" as they did before, as the MXO2 devices are external and work with just about any computer, and the GPU choices are now determined by Adobe and not Matrox.

MXO2 devices are going to offer capture and playback monitoring, realtime hardware up/down/cross convert, and Matrox CPU effects which are Color Correction, Keying and Wipes basically. An HDMI output color calibration tool is offered to get the best color on your display. The "MAX" option is available for hardware-accelerated H.264 encoding as well.

Hi Ahmer,

One more thing - all of the MXO2 hardware choices offer the same basic editing performance - the difference between models (Mini, LE, MXO2, Rack) is simply the available I/O connections on the box.

Today I visit my friend's Editing studio who owns Matrox MXO2 LE with Premiere 5.0.

My first impression to see the MXO2 LE Breakout BOX was awesome. It was solid n good looking device. I was happy that that Matrox created a portable version of Editing card which will not get that much heatup as RTX/AXIO cards.

When I start playing with Premiere CS5, I Notice that MATROX 3DVE, MATROX SOFT FOCUS etc effects are no more in the list....
I asked him, did you installed Matrox effects Pattern properly or not....!
He replied that Matrox 3DVE etc are no longer offered my Matrox MXO2 Family.

That was too disappointed for me because we need 3DVE on daily basis.
May be I have to stick with AXIOLE + CS3 for a long time.
