Hi guys,

since I have upgraded to Avid MC 5.5.2 I get a very bad horizontal jitter when I am working on 24fps projects. One can't oversee it when there is movement in the shot. I tried to switch every field order but it doesn't go away...

Thanks for help

David

Hi David,

What was the previous version of MC that worked well for you? And with which Matrox driver?

What is your current version of Matrox driver and OSX version?

Does this jitter occurs only in 1080p 24 fps projects? Does the jitter exist only on the external monitor or also in the Avid window?

How are you connected to your external monitor? HDMI?

Verify the 'video output' tab in the Matrox app and check that the main channel output is set to 'follow application'.

I will look for your reply.

Hi Joe,

It was my first 24fps project with the new Avid MC 5.5. Before I wasn't able to use my client monitor as 24fps wasn't supported.

My client monitor is a LaCie 324i an it is conected vie HDMI

The jitter is visible in the client monitor aswell as in the avid window.
When I replay an exported Quicktime on my normal monitor I have no jitter there.

I recently opened an old 25fps project and I have the jitter there, too.

So I upgraded everything now.
I was on OS 10.6.5 Avid MC 5.5. and my Matrox driver was 2.2.3.0043

Now I am on Mac OS 10.7. Avid MC 5.5.3 and Matrox driver 2.2.3.

I am sad to tell you that I still have the jitter on 24 and 25fps projects. It is really bad when the image is moving strongly.

Is it a wrong setting ? (I already switched from lower field first to upper field and to both fields. It didn't change a thing)

Thnks for your help!!

David

Hi David,

First thing I would recommend is to install the appropriate Matrox driver for OSX Lion 10.7.1. The correct version is 2.3.2.0009.

Since you say the jitter also occurs on your computer monitor, then the problem does not appear to be related to a Matrox setting. The MXO2 will output whatever is seen on your Avid window.

Have you contacted Avid to see if they can help?

What was the MC version that worked well for you?

For Matrox, the setting you would want to verify is in the Matrox application at -> Video Output -> Miscellaneous -> Scrub and Pause: change it to 'upper' or 'lower' field first. This removes the jitter when pausing or scrubbing interlaced footage.

Hi Joe,

I mixed it up: I am already on the correct driver 2.3.2.0009.
Switching between upper and under does't change anything. And the last project without this jitter was on MC 5.0.3.

I will try to get help from the avid forum, too.

Thanks so far...

Hi there,

I took me a while but I finally resolved my jitter problem. BUT just in the Avid Window. I still have it on my Lacie 324i client monitor...

For eleminating the jitter (or tearing) in the Composer window you have to enter the command "tearingfix" in Console

for Fullscreen playback: in settings, enable "flip on vertical sync"

How can I sync my client monitor / matrox mini ???

Thanks

David
