Hey, I've been using the mini with Avid and Apple Color for about 5 months. I got the box to work fine, but in the last two days I can't get video out put from the mxo2 mini. It still turns on with my computer.

Is the blue/red LED turning ON?

If you open the MAC System Profiler, under PCI cards, do you see a 'other multimedia' item listed?

Which Matrox driver version is installed on your MAC?

Sounds like the MXO2 is fine from a hardware point of view.

What resolution and frame rate are you working with?

Also, please check that you have MXO2 listed on the command button near the Avid logo in the timeline window. If you see '1394', then click on it and it should switch to 'MXO2'.

the mxo2 worked fine for half of this project in both Avid & Color.

I can still get audio out of the mini but no video.

I can't get video out of the mxo2 mini with any apps from final cut studio or Avid

I noticed that you listed your Avid version as 5.5. Please note that version 5.5.1 is the supported version. So you will need to update your Avid.

If you are not able to get playback from other apps like FCP, then there is either something wrong with the setup, driver, cabling, or the hardware itself. If the problem is hardware, we will be happy to exchange it for you under warranty.

My recommendation is to start by trying a different cable for the connection to your output monitor. What type of cabling are you using? If it is HDMI, then a quick test is to move the hdmi cable connector ends while playing back video. We've seen this the problem on more than one occasion. If the cable seems fine, then I'd test the monitor separately.

Also, as previously requested, do you see 'MXO2' listed on the command button near the Avid logo in the timeline window? Does clicking on the command button toggle between '1394' and 'MXO2'? If it does not toggle, then we need to re-install the driver as follows:

Matrox MXO2/Compress HD Uninstall/Reinstall Procedure - MAC

1. Uninstall current Matrox driver using the Matrox uninstaller application found in Applications->Matrox MXO2 Utilities-> Matrox MAX Software Uninstaller

2. After the system restarts, follow the '*** Manual Verification of Uninstall ***' procedure listed below.

3. Run a MAC software update making sure to update any EFI firmware revisions and pro applications updates

For Final Cut Pro users (steps 4 & 5):
4. Run the Preference Manager utility to clear the final cut suite preferences:
Link: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm.
Install and run the software, then click the default profile name in the list of profiles, then click the trash button (bottom left of window) to clear preferences. Note that this will reset all preferences to defaults)

5. MAX users only: This step removes the Matrox Compressor presets manually.

Navigate to the following folder: *your home drive*/library/applications support/compressor/

Look for the Matrox H.264 folder. If it is not there, that's ok, proceed to the next step. If you have made your own custom presets in this folder and don't wish to lose them, then please back them up first. Then, delete the Matrox H.264 folder. This will clear all the Matrox presets.

More detailed explanation on how to find the folder:
1. Open Finder
2. click on the boot drive, expand the 'users' folder, then click on your user name
3. expand the following folders: library -> applications support -> compressor
4. Look for the Matrox H.264 folder and send it to trash.

6. Re-download a fresh copy of the latest driver for your OSX making sure to select the appropriate driver for your specific MXO2 product. If your MAX OSX is Snow Leopard (10.6.4 or above), then download Matrox driver version 2.2.1 and install. Once installed, if you load the Matrox Preferences and view the Info tab, the full version number will read 2.2.1.0042 (this version supports Avid 5.5.1 as well)
Download link: http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/downloads/

If you have an MXO2 Mini, be sure to power cycle after the MAC shut downs.

okay so I double checked and I am on Avid 5.5.1

I have double checked cabling using other cables via hdmi & other video out methods still no video.

in avid I can switch between 1394 & mxo2

the mxo2 also shows up in final cut studio apps but I have the same issue

I have uninstalled all mxo2 firmware/software & reinstalled but still no working video out.

Their is defiantly something wrong with the mxo2 unit. I have had strange drop outs in the past & thought that the device just wasn't that great but now i'm thinking it's because it was defective to begin with.

Can I get a replacement now? I have projects coming my way soon & need a working video i/o soon

at this point I don't want another replacement since it's obvious their is no quality control in your business model. I want my money back. I do not enjoy paying 500 dollars for a paperweight.

and before you ask again yes mxo2 is selected in avid versus 1394b.

audio plays just as before but no video.

just tested with apple color and it seems to work there. but since I use avid 70 % of the time this is obviously a huge pain

Since your video output from your MXO2 Mini is working properly from Apple Color, I would like to know if it also works properly if you load a supported clip in Matrox Vetura player and in Apple Final Cut Pro 7.0.3.

If that works as well, then the problem is likely with the Avid configuration. Which file format are you working with in Avid?

Regarding re-programming the firmware, this is done automatically when you switch driver versions. With Avid 5.5.1, you can use either the Avid-only driver (2.2.0.0028) or the latest driver (2.2.1.0042). The Avid component is the same. But if you want to go through the firmware flash process, then you can just switch from one driver version to another. Please be sure to follow the power cycle requirement whenever the firmware flash process has completed on your MXO2 mini.

Also, did you at any point have any other video output devices on this MAC?

Regarding requests for refunds: this is strictly a technical support forum thread; any such requests must be directed to your point of purchase.

does mxo2 mini support projects with media linked via AMA? what projects settings are not supported?

and since you don't actually sell devices to customers I guess that works out nicely for you Rolling Eyes
