I did as you outlined, only there was no "compressor" folder in step 4. So I could not delete Matrox H.264 folder...could not find one on the drive.

Same result, no audio, 1394 button not change-able.
Also, this message:
"The Matrox RS-422 port is busy and cannot be used as an external controller" when Avid loads. Only choice is "ok"

so I uninstalled the Matrox drivers and uninstalled Avid. Then I reversed order, installed matrox, then avid. Same result as above, same message, same stuck 1394 button.

What do you think I try next?

Thanks,
Mark

Ok it's fine that you did not see the Matrox presets since you don't have MAX on your MXO2.

The Matrox should really be installed last. It's really odd that Avid is not seeing it. I'm thinking it might have something to do with with the dual boot setup. Have you tried this on another MAC that has just OSX installed on it?

I read that you have SDI from a deck and your outs are XLR to a mixer, which MXO2 board do you have?
Unless your working on a MXO2Mini, no other MXO2 board will monitor from AVID. Only the MXO2Mini is designed to work with MC5.

I have an MXO2LE.
I understood that it will monitor just not offer 1:1 pixel mapping etc.
Another editor has the identical set-up dual boot, with an earlier MXO2 (plain, no xlr i/o) model and he has no problem with monitoring.
We built the system, same as his, from same vendor, because of this, only difference was the newer mxo2le vs. mxo2.

Hi Mark
Avid monitoring through the MXO2 LE is not supported. Avid support is ONLY supported with the MXO2 Mini ... the other editor (on whose system yours was modeled) has an MXO2 Mini. You need to switch to using an MXO2 Mini.
Apologies for not having spotted that you were using an MXO2 LE earlier.
Cheers
Andy

Here is the other editor's unit that does work:
MXO version 2.1.6.003
Product ID: 8003
Board ID: 3
Firmware Revision: 23
Microcontroller: 2.8

so what unit is product ID 8003?

its an MXO (the original monitoring only box) ... you have an entirely different product, an MXO2 LE

Andy is correct.

Sorry for not identifying this earlier. So far only the MXO2 mini is supported with Avid and for playback only.

No dv decks or converters should be connected, if they have ever been connected Avid might "remember" them.
Also try trashing the MCstate files and system settings in the media composer supporting files folder. You need to do this before launching media composer.

Thank you ldtowers. Good info. Just need anyone reading this to keep in mind that only the MXO2 mini is currently supported with Avid. Here is a useful link for Avid-Matrox related questions: http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=366347#a6

Let me take another run at this, and ask the question this way:
I need to capture SDI (standard def) into an Avid MC5 on a Mac, and monitor SD and HD out.

I have a Mac setup to boot to either FCP or MC5. I have the MXO2LE hooked up. It works fine on the FCP side. I understand I need the Mini to monitor the sound out via Avid--but it wont capture SDI. So do I need capture the SDI stuff via the MXO2LE into FCP....then pull the card, and install a Mini and work in the Avid? Or can I just install a Mini alongside the MXO2LE, if I have the slot...and one will boot up with the FCP side, the other with the MC5 side?

Is there another answer?

Hey again Mark

Unfortunately there is no universal driver that works for folks with more than one base unit variation, you have to have the right driver installed for your specifc hardware ... so no, you can't have both drivers installed side by side and/or simply switch boxes as needed.

Your least troublesome option, if you own both an MXO2 LE and and MXO2 Mini, is exactly as you describe yourself i.e. to install the MXO2 LE drivers on the FCP boot partition and the MXO2 Mini drivers on the Avid boot partition; boot into the FCP side, attach the MXO2 LE, and then capture from SDI into FCP or using Matrox Vetura Capture; boot into the Avid side, attach the MXO2 Mini, and then monitor as needed from your Avid system (using AMA to bring in / link the files that you captured earlier using the MXO2 LE).

On the Avid side alone you can use the Matrox Vetura Capture app to capture from SDI via your MXO2 LE, and those captured files can then be quickly and easily imported into your MC5 project using AMA linking ... but then you'd be faced with the monumental pain of having to uninstall the LE drivers, reboot, install the Mini drivers, and reboot again before you can start editing (w/ monitoring) on that system ... and rinse and repeat every time you need to capture again.

Hope that helps ... and please feel free to add your voice to those asking for a universal driver release for the MXO2 series (seems to me if Blackmagic Design can offer a universal driver then so can Matrox if we push them hard enough).

Hope it helps
Andy

Very helpful Andy, thank you.
One last question and then i think I'm on my way...
Do I install a distinct PCI card for the Mini alongside the MXO2 card? If so, do I need to worry about which slot they are in?
