A dumb question, no doubt, but here we go...

I've recently upgraded, at last, to Final Cut Studio. I'm using the MXO with an HP ZR24w as a color grading monitor.

What MXO settings should I use in FCP for View/Video Playback when viewing and grading ProRes422 shot at 1080p24? Likewise 720p30?

I don't seem to see any appropriate settings in the lists I get, either in the View/Video Playback or Audio Video Settings menus of FCP.

Think I'm missing something...

Thanks,

Harold

Valid question.

I would try MXO Uncompressed 1080P 23.98 and MXO Uncompressed 720P 29.97.

Please let me know if that outputs your sequences properly.

Joe,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the setting you suggested for 1080p looks good. Haven't checked the 720p yet, but I'll assume it also works.

In fact, all the 1080p 23.98 YUV settings look indistinguishable to me. (RGB not so much!) Should I be seeing a difference between say, uncompressed and DVCPro?

No need for a rush answer. Just if you have time.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards,

Harold

Harold,

Appreciate your kindness in not requesting a rush answer.

That's a good question. From my understanding, there should be no difference in those video settings because all video is output uncompressed. I will try to gather a more technical answer though.

As for the RGB vs YUV settings, those are there to accommodate different kinds of monitors. Some tv's (like the Vizio brand) work with RGB color instead of YUV (which is more common). So then you'd have to choose an RGB video output setting. If not, you will see a greenish picture.
