Hi, I'm new to the forums and I just purchased my MXO2 Mini. I'm looking for guidance on exporting and to make sure I'm doing everything correct. First my Mini's light is red is that right? I thought I read somewhere it was supposed to be blue.

I need to export HDV video into an SD format as well as Blu-ray. For SD we've simply been using compressor's included format of DVD Fast encode 150 minutes and it's been working fine. What settings should we use to make SD-DVDs if we plan on having the Mini assist with faster encoding? Also does the amount of 'effects' that we put on the timeline affect the speed in which it encodes? And finally is the mini affected by FXFactory effects? Thanks for your help people of the forum!

I've also noticed that while exporting for blu-ray it's not faster then realtime. Do effects added in Final Cut hinder the Matrox's speed?

Hi John,

Welcome to the forums.

The light on the MXO2 is red if it has the MAX option. If the unit was purchased without the MAX option, then the light is blue.

The Matrox MXO2 line of products are offered with or without the MAX H.264 accelerator option. The MAX is used only for creating H.264 files in real time or faster. These H.264 files can be used to create blu-ray discs.

To produce SD-DVD's, you can't use the MAX H.264 option since this is only used for H.264 encoding. DVD players do not recognize the H.264 file type; they only recognize a very specific industry standard type of MPG2 file for playback.

The amount of effects on your timeline will affect the amount of time required for the render process. The more effects you have, the more rendering time is needed. Once rendering is complete, you can proceed to transcode the video to an H.264 format (if H.264 is required) using Matrox MAX. The MAX feature will significantly accelerate this transcoding process, but it has no influence on the rendering process required prior to transcoding.

Hope this helps.
