I'm on a Mac Pro, OS X 10.6.3, FCP 6, MXO software 2.1.7. My footage shot with a 5DMII at 24, 1920x1080. Second display is a Dell 1920x1200.

I've been reading the manual but am confused about the settings. I got an image on the second display but it was quarter size. Tried different settings and now I get no playback on second screen.

Here's what I'm trying, please let me know if I'm getting this wrong:

    1080PsF (1920x1080) - 23.98 fps (mxo cp setting)
FCP easy setup: MXO Uncomp. 8bit 1080p24
FCP video playback: MXO Uncomp. 1080p23.98 YUV (1920x1080)

Any help would be appreciated. One (of many) things I'm confused by is 23.98 vs. 24. I've tried setting my sequence to both of those.

Correction: my main display is 1920x1200, the secondary display is 1920x1080. Also, my video clips are converted to Prores (not hq).

Hey Jim

Can you just confirm that the monitor/display you have connected to the MXO (DVI out) is your 1920x1200 display? It should be. If you have both a 1920x1080 native and a 1920x1200 native display, make sure it is the latter which is connected as the monitoring display from the MXO.

Other than that, your FCP settings look about right for the format you are working with ... but you may need to check your settings in the OS X System Preferences >> MXO Preference pane: make sure the "Downconvert HD video to SD" checkbox is not checked.

Cheers
Andy

Andy:

Thanks for the reply. Actually I have the second display, which is 1920x1080, connected to DVI out. The 1980x1200 is connected to my Mac and there's a cable between Mac and MXO DVI in. I'll try switching the monitors.

I checked and "downconvert HD to SD" is indeed not checked.

Hi jimtron,

Did changing the monitors resolve the issue? You need to make sure the 1920X1200 monitor is connected the MXO's output.

Regards

Peter

Hmm, now I'm getting the spinning beach ball, and I have to force quit FCP. Here's the config:

NEC 1920x1200 display connected to MXO DVI out.
Dell 1920x1080 connected to Mac Pro.
MXO DVI in connected to Mac Pro DVI.
MXO connected to Mac Pro via USB.

FCP settings as in my post above. When I select external video: all frames in FCP, FCP freezes up.

Update: I restarted and now FCP is not crashing. However, the NEC goes black when playing back video.

Update 2:

If I select MXO uncompressed 8bit 1080p 1920x1080 RGB (as opposed to YUV) in FCP video playback I get a quarter image playing back (ie, the NEC display is showing playback but it's only filling 1/4 of screen).
