Workflow:

Apple 24"IMac, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac OS 10.6.8
Memory 6 GB

External Hard Drives for Video footage

footage DVCPro 1080i /24pA
import using Raylight v2.08 (remove Pulldown)

FCP 6.06
Audio/Video sequence preset Matrox MXO DVCPRO HD-1080p24
timeline compressor settings DVCPRO 1080i60 editing timebase 23.98

Matrox v2.1.9.0004 works fine in FCP but crashes when sent to Apple Color 1.04.

The workflow has always worked if I am using 720pN /24 footage and has never crashed Apple Color unless I have made the usual mistakes with multi clips or not baking motion etc.

Apple Color crashes on launch w/ "specific hardware could not be found".

I am testing with just one short clip. Have trashed FCP preferences with no success.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Many Thanks

Hi Martin,

Does this happen 100% of the time will all 1080p/i projects? Does Color ever crash just by starting it on its own with the same error message? Have you tried trashing color's preferences as well?

Thank you for responding Ken,

I have set up FCP timeline new project with just one 1080i clip and I get the same results, crashing on launch.

I just trashed the Color preferences on your advice.

It seems now I am getting the scopes on the Matrox dedicated monitor. Am unsure of how to change back to scopes on Imac monitor.

I thank you for any advice. I will work on reseting up Color. I used the excellent Ken Stone article to set up when I originally purchased the MXO.

Respectfully,
Martin Jones

Hi Martin,

In color, under Window, is "single display mode" selected?

Peter,

I am able to open up Apple Color by it's self if I open a 720p document but I cannot open by it's self or "send to" from FCP the 1080i material without it crashing. I was able to get the 1080i clip to load into Color but when I pressed the space bar it immediately crashes with the same message as I stated above. I then have to turn off the MXO and then restart the MXO as it freezes the screen. There appears to be an incompatibility issue with the MXO and the 1080i frame rate.

What else would you suggest?

Thank You
Martin

Hi Martin,

Would it be possible to uninstall the Matrox MXO software, uninstall color, then reinstall color and the Matrox software?

Peter,

I could certainly look into the possibility. I will have to go back through my files and find the original Apple discs for FCP. I cannot remember how the Matrox software is delivered. Do you know?

Could you explain what your thinking is? Is there an order to reinstalling?

Thank You,
Mike

Hi Mike,

to uninstall the Matrox software, go to applications-->Matrox MXO and there is an uninstaller. To download the software, it is located here:

http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/downloads/

-uninstall the Matrox software
-uninstall and reinstall Color
-install the Matrox software

Peter,

I cannot get the Matrox DVI Calibration Utility to work now that I have uninstalled and then downloaded the same version of MXO software. The screens never changes from one with purple bars. Something is wrong with your product. I need more information. Could you please provide me with phone number for someone who can help me to get this thing running properly.

thank you,

Martin Jones

Peter,

Was finally able to calibrate the monitor after installing new version of software. I was able to briefly correct one short clip but still had the same problem with crashing. I tried both starting up w Color and sending from FCP. Sometimes I could get it to open and see it on monitor only to hit the spacebar to advance and have it crash. There is some conflict between the MXO and Color w regards to 1080i 24f clips.

I transcoded the clip to Apple ProRes HD dropped in a new sequence and sent if over to Apple Color no problems. It played fine even though it was a larger file size.

Hi Martin,

As per our phone conversations, we were able to reproduce this here and have reported it to our engineering department so that it could be possibly addressed.

Peter,

I have waited over 4 months for a solution to this problem. Are you going to provide a solution or workaround?

thank you,
Martin
