I'm trying to get a clear answer about using the Mojito MAX for encoding h264 within flash media live encoder? One supplier says that it will just treat it as an SDI capture card and give no acceleration to encoding through Flash Media Live encoder, but for HD streaming this is absolutely crucial.
Could someone give me a definitive answer?

Hello Simon and thank you for your interest in Matrox products. I would venture to say they are both correct. When you are using the Matrox Mojito Max as an input device we can use our real time 10 bit hardware scaler http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mojito_max/scaling/ to convert your video feed to the format that you want. This will make it easier for you to handle full uncompressed HD video or to simply upscale SD video. You can read more about this on page 166 (slide 184) in our user guide http://www.matrox.com/video/media/pdf/support/windows/mojito_max/doc/en_Matrox_Mojito_MAX_Installation_and_User_Guide_7_1.pdf.

When live streaming on the PC or the Mac we do not use our MAX technology, you cab however use it to get lightning fast encoding to H.264 http://www.matrox.com/video/en/solutions/encoding/ as well as use our free Matrox MAX H.264 Capture App on the PC to capture your video directly to H.264. http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mojito_max/productivity_apps/

Thanks, for the update. It would be useful to have the distinction between h264 encoding support (accelerated) aimed at file based capture and h264 encoding support aimed at streaming (limited to CPU based encoding) made clearer on the website. As these are very different requirements and the product information is ambiguous.

Hi JD,

I think there is now the ability to save an isolated recording file of the content that is being streamed. I haven't used this yet and so I don't know if the h264 compression format is an option for it.

Just in case this may be of some help.

Hello Andrew and thank you for your continuous help. It is true that on the PC with Telestream Wirecast we have added a slew of capturing formats including direct to H.264 when you have the MAX technology. This is not availible on the Mac or with AFMLE. http://www.matrox.com/video/en/solutions/streaming/

We made this announcement earlier this month: http://www.matrox.com/video/en/press/releases/mxo2/multit-channel_capture_and_ISO_recording/wirecast/

regards,

JD

One more reason to use a PC. "Come to the dark side, I say. Resistance is futile." Razz
