|
|
Hello,
I intend to work in Pro Res at 25 frames, (not 50 fields), 1024x576 (i.e. PAL square pixels) and have some questions.
1. Is it possible for the MXO2 to work with this format?
2. And will it output this format (1:1) over the Main channel (HDMI)?
3. Will it letterbox this format over the SD channel?
thanks,
Jason |

Hi Jason, and thank you for your interest in the Matrox MXO2 product, with regards to your questions; The MXO2 is able to support 50 fields as well as 25 fields. The formats supported are: (1920x1080), (1280x720), or (720x576). I'm not familiar with the (1024x576) format. Could you please explain your workflow and the type of camera you shoot with to have a better understanding of your editing needs?
With regards to your other questions, the Matrox MXO2's HDMI output provides 1:1 pixel mapping for accurate monitoring on HDMI monitors and televisions. The MXO2 is also able to output the widescreen 16:9 picture in letterbox mode by adding black bars at the top and bottom of the picture for display on a standard 4:3 television screen.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
B.C. |

Thanks for your response. I should have been more clear in my post.
The final deliverable format I will be working with is PAL 16:9 FHA (Full Height Anamorphic) at a pixel dimension of 720x576 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.42
However, as much of our work is generated (motion graphics) we plan to use Uncompressed or Pro Res codecs to maintain high quality in 16:9 using Square Pixels. This equates to 1024x576.
Is no one else using this workflow?
cheers,
Jason |

Hi Jason,
I will run this through our MXO2 Product Specialist for clarification since I'm not sure about this delivery format. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from them. In the meantime, may I suggest that you test drive the MXO2 through our dealer channel and see if it fits your work flow.
Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.
Best regards,
B.C. |

Hi Jason,
The 1024x576 is actually a 'trick' from Apple to cheat certain software to be able to import PAL 16:9 footage into their packages while the pixel resolution is still 720x576.
For example people wanting to import PAL 16:9 footage into iDVD from FCP software. Then the thing to do is to open the original file PAL 16:9 720x576 into Quicktime Pro, and to set the Video playback as 1024x576 in the Video properties and to save the file again (no need to export).
I tried myself for example to generate real 1024x576 resolution from 720P, and to load that into multiple packages lik iDVD, iMovie as a test, and then they don't recognize the files anymore. As these are not standard resolution video formats anymore.
So capturing 720x576 will work fine. |
