We're trying to find a monitor to use with MX02 mini max.

the HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx has been recommended. It's more expensive than we'd like, but if it can be accurately calibrated we'll get it.

According to the Dreamcolor info sheet, the monitor needs to see a PROGRESSIVE RGB signal on its HDMI input for the color gamut circuitry to work. Can the mxo2 mini output that? (assuming you're editing typical HD video in FCP or Avid, which might be progressive or interlaced, but normally in YUV not RGB color space). Will the MXO2 convert the video to progressive RGB? In 10 bits?

If you use the MXO calibration utility does it bypass the DreamColor's settings for gamma and black level? Would we be getting any benefit of these features (which is presumably part of the reason to buy such an expensive monitor)

BTW, here is their sheet on using the monitor for video editing which details the required signal: http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01695201/c01695201.pdf

Thanks very much for your help.

Hello Steve and thank you for your interest in Matrox products. As stated in our system requirements http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/mac/mxo2/system/requirements/ you will need a 1080p monitor that accepts a RGB signal. It will need 1:1 pixel mapping for displaying your MXO2 output at its exact resolution, and for use with the Matrox HDMI Calibration Utility. I am not sure how the HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx handles the signal. It says in the spec sheets that it allows custom scaling, I just do not know if you can set that to 1:1. You can find more cost effective monitors out there that does the job.

Here are some forum posts that I have found:

http://forum.matrox.com/mxo/viewtopic.php?t=4843&highlight=ultrasharp

http://forum.matrox.com/mxo/viewtopic.php?t=7410&highlight=calibration

These monitors have not been tested by Matrox but you can read for yourself before making your choice.

thanks JD, the HP ZR2440w mentioned in your post is 1920x1200 - so that wouldn't be 1:1 pixel mapping for HD. Would that still work with the MXO calibration utility?

Hi Steve,

For the Calibration utility it needs to be 1920X1080, I guess the HP ZR2440w would not work then, these were forums posts that I have found. None of these monitors have been approved or tested by Matrox. We have a choosing an HDMI monitor page here as well: http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/windows/mxo2/system/monitors/
