FF and REW still not fluent. The video update when scrolling in the timeline is still way too slow to be workable... If you disable the client monitor by pressing the blue icon, things speed up considerably. This is how it is supposed to be.

When I tried to trim a few frames, Avid freezed and I got the following error message:

Exception: BlipPlayer::NonThreadedPlayBlipField: Timed out waiting for single frame player to stop. If scrubbing a complex sequence of unrendered effects, consider rendering them for better performance.

My sequence consists of DNxHD 36 24p footage on a RAID 0 eSata array. Sequence is cuts only with a realtime 1:2.35 mask effect applied on the top layer. Nothing special.

Was able to press OK to continue so no crash but honestly, the MXO2 mini is still not working as it should and it's been 6 months after the release of 6.0 . Thanks for the work done so far though.

Also, isn't it possible to combine the FCP7 and Avid drivers into one package ? Why change things that used to work well...

SPECS: Avid 6.01 on 10.7.3. MacPro Westmere 3.33GHz, 12Gb Ram, ATI 5770

Also, when hitting play, the image image jumps back and forth for 2-3 frames before playing...

Improvements:

- The delay between the audio meters is fixed. That's really good. Now I do not have the old 14 frame delays between them and audio itself.

- Responsiveness while in CC mode is much better. Not perfect but workable which wasn't the case before.

- Capslock on now works. It hanged on me sometimes but at least it is starting to work.

Could be better:

- Trim mode is better. Before, whenever I tried pressing the shortcut to advance by frame say, 5 times, I would have a slow displaying of frame 2, then 4, then 5. That would take around 3 secs. Now if I do the same it will display only the last frame (5th) with a second of delay. It's better but no way like it is when one turns the output display off, it promptly displays each frame for each key press. It's workable but makes the trim mode very weak which is the best thing IMHO, on Media Composer.

- Stopping while playing back is delaying 2 frames before responding to the shortkey.

Bugs;

I have my computer hanging while going backwards sometimes.

I had a hang while loading a AMA clip on the record window.

--------

So far good. I can see some improvements but I think it can be better since I was really used to the performance on 5.5

Congratulations on the audio meters tho'. It makes a huge difference for me.

Cheers,

Ed.

After three hangs on different situations I had to uninstall the driver. It is still unstable.

Hi Ed,

Thank you for your detailed feedback. With the latest beta driver, we have only improved the sluggishness issue with MXO2 and Avid MC6.
We are still currently working on other issues regarding stability with Avid MC6.

As for two bugs reported:
I have my computer hanging while going backwards sometimes.

I had a hang while loading a AMA clip on the record window.

Can you confirm your file type, resolution and frame rate you are working with in Avid?

The hang while going backwards has happened both on mxf prores 422 hq, 23.97, 1920x1080 and on 29.97, prores 422, 1920x1080.

The one while playing AMA, the original media is 29.97, 1920x1080 and AVCHD.

I hope this can help you somehow. I haven't had any kernel panics, only the beachball hang.

Hi Ed,

We have reported the backwards/forwards (JKL) issue to our QA and engineering department for further investigation.

As for the AMA imported file, does this occur 100% of the time?
Have you tried importing using regular File > Import into Avid?
Are these AVCHD progressive 1080 29.97 files?

Thanks for your feedback, it is much appreciated.

After some more tests I found out that scrolling through the timeline is very responsive when Fast Scrub is enabled.

But trimming is still unworkably slow...

Also, when I hit play, the image jumps back and forth a few frames, and I had the impression that there were still some sync issues.

Sam,

I tried the driver again this morning on my 29.97 project. The media is transcoded to MXF ProRes media.

I had a sequence of selects loaded on my Source monitor and it hanged after some forward/backwards jkl action.

I will still try to get it to work but It is becoming difficult to test it on my work.

Cheers,

Ed.

Not all the time. I think it is more related to the same jkl problem I am having. And yes, these are progressive 24 fps AVCHD on a 29.97 file. I suppose it is on a 60i stream. Canon consumer originated material.

I haven't tried importing via File>import because AMA is still best suited to my case. Like I said, it doesn't happen all the time.

This is quite a demanding project because it is part of a documentary that let the subjects shoot themselves, hence the consumer formats.

Hope this can help somehow.

Thanks Ed. We realize you are busy with your projects and deadline, and we appreciate any feedback you provide.

So to confirm, you get freezes when running JKL commands for both issues you had reported? Is JKL the main cause of the hangs?

JKL has freezed me several times. Specially when I hit J for backwards.

I had a problem with AMA once only.

Any updates on this?

We're getting constant hangs with on Westmere Macs with 6.0.1.1 and this beta driver.

Any hints or workarounds to remedy the hangs?
