Hi

Beside all know problems, I have a problem with simple 4 sources multicam editing.

Thou my system played in the past in MC5.5 a 9 sources of DNXHD36 group without any problem it can't play a simple 4 source 15:1s group.

I can see peeks of 100% cpu usage at the beginning of every 4 source multicam playback, even if media is OFFLINE.. Then CPU drops to 60% and playback is ok but not in sync most of the times.

So I have formatted a new disk and installed fresh WIN7+SP1+QT7.7+drivers+MC6

Now multicam playback was Ok!
CPU did not jump to 100%, it was at the most 60% and I had no more multicam playbacks problems.

Then.. I installed MX.UTILS 6 and since then I have again 100% CPU peeks at the beginning and multicam problems even if MX02 is not connected..

I know my Q9450 quad is not the most up-to-date CPU but it could handle much more before.

Hi dor,

Can you give me your full system specs? motherboard model etc?

What is your Avid project format/frame rate?
What are your source clips being used?
Are there any effects applied?
What is your playback quality? Yellow/Yellow, Green/Green etc? Does changing the quality make a difference?

Did you test the exact same sequence, clips and length of time for both native Avid compared to MXO2 test?

Hi dor,

What is your motherboard model?
We are not seeing the issue in house. Are you still running with XDCAM AMA plugin?

Hi

I have the EP35-DS3R board from Gigabyte.
I am not talking about the XDCAM problem. I am sorry if I did not explaine my self good enough.

The XDCAM AMA was solved with a new driver instalation and I could play 2 sources of multi cam directly from the AMA

This is about simple 4 source multicam playback that I think (maybe I am wrong) that installation of MX.UTILS6 has slow down MC6 4 source multicam preformances even if the MX02 box is OFF.

On the fresh WIN7 no AMA plugings were not installed.

Just a simple 15:1s avid media files footage.

Hi dor,

We are not able to reproduce your issue with Multi-cam monitoring using a certified HP Z400 system.
The playback is smooth and CPU usage stays around 5-10%. The issue may be a result of your system and/or performance.
Would it be possible to test on a certified Avid system? Can you make sure you are running the tested graphic and system drivers?

We did notice a slight delay while scrubbing in Multicam mode and we will continue to investigate.

Can you confirm with native Avid the issue does not occur?
To confirm, you are not running with XDCAM AMA plugins when testing MC with both tests, in native Avid on fresh install and with MXO2 drivers/hardware?

Thanks for your reply!

I did a test on a formated disk.
I have installed fresh WIN7 64 + SP1 and some more updates
I have installed QuickTime 7.7
I have installed my Gefore 8800 laest driver (This is what I currently have. I can't try another system)

I have installed MC6 without MX02 or any other AMA plugin

MultiCam playback of native avid media files in low res 15:1s was ok.
I have boot again and tested again. MultiCam was still Ok.

Then I have installed MX.UTILS 6
Since then my CPU is jumping to 100% for 1-2 sec. everytime I am trying to play the same native avid sequence. I can guess that this is what cause my out of sync playback.

I have found out, that even if my media is offline, and there is nothing to play beside the "media offline" boxes, my CPU is still jumping to 100%.

It may be just a local problem with my system, but still it is wired..

If by any chance you'll have more info or complaines from other users please let me know,
Many thanks!

CPU is junping to 100%

Yes dor, we will keep an eye out for this issue, and continue some investigation. If we have any updates, we will report back.

Also, if you have any further updates or if you can try the issue on a certified system and/or graphic card, please let us know.

Are you able to perform a regular playback of 4 SD PAL files (on top of each other), without Multi Cam mode? Does CPU peak?

Hi

Good idea for testing!

Playback with 4 video layers of the same multicam clip (in regular mode) get my CPU to 10%-15% with no peaks.

Addeding 3D warp effect to all 4 video layers on the same clip gets CPU to avarage of 30%-35%, no peaks..

This is my home avid system and I don't have here some more hardware to test.

Is there any chance that the peak 100% CPU problem and my re enabling problem is some kind of MX02 hardware problem?
Maybe we should try to resend the MX02 hardware driver to the box?

Hi dor,

Have you tried installing the latest system drivers and updates for your specific motherboard chipset, BIOS, audio and graphic card drivers?

Are you running a trial or fully licensed version of Avid?
Are you running all CPU cores from BIOS settings?
Have you loaded BIOS defaults?

How exactly are you setting up the Multicam Mode playback for your sequence?

Have you tried conforming the PAL clips to a different codec upon importing?
Have you tried playing back the MC sequence on a different hard drive?

I am not sure MXO2 hardware is the issue regarding your specific setup. It would be best to try on a certified system before RMAing the MXO2 unit.

Hi

All system drivers are updated. I did not flash my BIOS so there could be a newer version.

With my previos computer I did once an official BIOS update and since then the PC didn't boot.. and they had to replace my motherboard..

I am running a fully licensed version of Avid
All CPU cores are active. I can see that in my task manager.
I have never played with my BIOS settings (beside disk booting setting)

All clips were captured from tapes to AVID low res MXF media.

Media is located on an ESATA drive. I could easly play the 4 tracks of video with 3D warp.

All I do is a simple "overwrite" my group clip to a new sequence and enable the quad view.

Even multicam playback was Ok with my same system, in the fresh WIN7 untils MX.UTILS6 was installed.

I'll try to get another PC system next week for testing

Yes, it is strange you are able to playback 4 regular clips but not in Multicam mode. Here are some additional information which can help us troubleshoot the issue.

Is the scrubbing slow when scrubbing over the four regular mode PAL clips?
How is the scrubbing responsiveness with Multicam mode?
Do you have Fast Scrub enabled? Can you see if this makes a difference in Multicam mode? You can switch Fast Scrub settings in Timeline Settings > Display tab in Avid.

In Task Manager, how many CPU cores are displayed? Four, eight?
When viewing CPU %, are all cores at 100%? What is the % of each core?
Can you compare % of each CPU when playing back 4 regular PAL clips?

When running Multicam mode, are the Video output settings set to PAL in Matrox Video Output tab? No upscaling to HD?
Is the Video Output settings the same when playing back 4 regular PAL clips on top of each other?

Can you confirm which Intel CPU processor you are running? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2743#sp
Are you running supported CPU and Memory for the Gigabyte motherboard?

Can you try copying the clips or project to a different drive?
Can you try clearing the conformed cache Avid Media Files and re-conform the PAL clips? See if there is any difference.

If possible, please let us know the results to the other PC system.

Hi

When scrabing over my PAL timeline with 4 video tracks, 3D WARP eff on all of them, speed is normal (fast) with the Fast Scrab option enable.
When this option is disabled scrabing is slow with same sequence.

MultiCam scrabing is slow on the quad view.. (with Fast scrab option enable or disabled)

In my task manager I can see 4 cores as in the image.

You can see all cores are active. The activity on the left is when playing the 4 tracks PAL sequence (no multicam)
Then I have swiched to multicam mode and tried to play. You can see the 100% peek and it drops to 65%.
The 65% stable CPU is ruring the rest multicam sequence playback

Project is PAL25I. PAL is also selected on the video output setting

CPU is Intel Q9450 quad core with Kingstone DDr2 800Mhz supported memory.

Clips and media were tested on 2 different drives (One with my old WIN7 system and with a fresh WIN7 disk)

A new test system should arrive later this week
