Hi!

I'm going to buy MXO2 but can't choose which one is the best for live internet broadcast using XDCAM Ex-1, MacBook Pro 17", FCP7 ... and video, audio capturing at the same time?

Mostly we have to broadcast and record lectures with translations to 1-3 languages plus a mic for questions, so we need to record at least 3 channels of audio, or sometimes even more. What is your advice?

.... and some questions:

Question 1: will be all audio channels separate after capturing, or mixed in one stereo track?

Question 2: is it possible to capture video with stereo signal through SDI and additional 2-4 channels via XLR input 1 & 2?

Question 3: is "MXO2 LE with Max" going to satisfy these needs?

Question 4: is each XLR input stereo or mono?

Question 5: do 2 XLR outputs on "MXO2 LE" are stereo or mono and audio signal in each XLR output is the same or different?

And one more question, if we buy "MXO2 LE with Max" do we need to purchase additional "Matrox Compress-HD" card to speed up H.264 converting time on Mac Pro using Comressor 3.5? Or MXO2 with Max is all what is necessary for that?

Thanks,
Damodar

Hello Damodar and thank you for your interest in Matrox products. I will answer your questions in order:

Question 1: will be all audio channels separate after capturing, or mixed in one stereo track?

All channels will be separate. Then again if the source you are capturing from is mixing the audio into stereo, then it will be stereo.

Question 2: is it possible to capture video with stereo signal through SDI and additional 2-4 channels via XLR input 1 & 2?

You can't choose to capture and seperate some audio channels via one connection and send other through another.

Question 3: is "MXO2 LE with Max" going to satisfy these needs

Judging from the first two questions, if you need SDI and XLR, the MXO2LE has them.

Question 4: is each XLR input stereo or mono?

Mono, just like RCA, you have a left and a right

Question 5: do 2 XLR outputs on "MXO2 LE" are stereo or mono and audio signal in each XLR output is the same or different?

The outputs are the same as the inputs. Mono, just like RCA, you have a left and a right.

And one more question, if we buy "MXO2 LE with Max" do we need to purchase additional "Matrox Compress-HD" card to speed up H.264 converting time on Mac Pro using Comressor 3.5? Or MXO2 with Max is all what is necessary for that?

Purchasing the Compress HD card will not accelerate the MAX feature in the MXO2. In fact, installing the compress HD will disable the MAX feature and run on the compress HD card instead. It's either one or the other, not both. If you have the Max its just the same as not having Max and the CompressHD card.

Hi Damodar,

Regarding the comment "best for live internet broadcast", the MXO2 hardware will allow you to capture audio and video into Final Cut Pro for editing, and edited video could then be output to a format for webcast, but MXO2 does not act as a live input device for streaming software.

Thanks for your input Jeff. Just to add to the Max comment. The best of all options is to get CompressHD for the Tower, so you can encode and work in FCP simultaneously, and get MAX in the Box when you need RT H264 on a MBP. If you need 4 channels of audio the only real option would be the Matrox MXO2 rack with 4 xlr ins.
