The MXO2 family of products has the added benefit of having an HDMI calibration tool, included with its drivers. This certainly helps when you need to perform color correction on a Matrox project. You'll always be assured that your monitor has is calibrated to your liking beforehand, to guarantee that you see the best color possible when monitoring through an HDMI monitor. I'm not sure though how the new Quadro FX 3800 handle color correction since I'm not that familiar with these graphic cards. Please check
this page
for more details on the advantages of monitoring out of the MXO2 Mini.
Also, please note that Matrox MXO2's HDMI output provides 1:1 pixel mapping for accurate monitoring on HDMI monitors and televisions. To take full advantage of Matrox MXO2, an HDMI monitor/television must support the following:
- An HDMI input resolution of 1920x1080.
- 1:1 pixel mapping (aspect ratio of 1:1) on the HDMI input. On some HDMI monitors, 1:1 pixel mapping is sometimes referred to as "dot-by-dot", "Full Pixel", or "Just Scan" mode.
Thanks again for your continued support and interest in Matrox products,
Best regards,
B.C.

Post subject: Color correction advantage?
What is the advantage of using the MXO2 mini to color correct - using a monitor capable of displaying 10bit colors? I have used the MXO2mini before and loved it but its seems that by now there are several similarly priced graphics cards (Quadro FX 3800) that works with After Effects for 10bit monitoring. These cards can output to much higher resolutions to monitors such as the NEC PA301W-BK 30".
I am not trying to put down the MXO2mini (in any way at all) but simply trying to understand the advantage of the product. It seems the the HDMI is limiting the number of high end monitors that can be used - I have only been able to find a couple - such as the HP Dreamcolor LP2480zx.
Are the limitations/restrictions of the MXO2mini in fact an advantage and quality control or has new technologies come out that in some ways are more acceptable of newer/bigger monitors etc?
It would be great if you could explain to me why the MXO2mini is better and still a great choice for true 10bit previews - as I hope it is.
Thanks,
Chr
