|
|
There are two packages to download on the Matrox VFW Software Codecs Support download area: v1 and legacy (old)
Which one is the new VFW software codecs for use on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems?
As till today there was a v1 codec that we were using I expect to see at least a v1.1 or v2 listed there.
Please explain.

| Um... V1.0 IS the new version. It is the ONLY version (so far). This never existed before.... so.... 1.0 is probably as good a version to begin with as you could possibly find. |

What do you mean the software codecs didn't exist before? I have been using a v1 installer for the last 5 years!
Below is the full version detail of the installer file that we have been using since we bought our Axio SD five years ago.
File description: Matrox VFW Software Codecs setup
File version: 1.0.0.11
Product version: 1.0.6.1096
Copyright 2004
Date modified: 11/11/2005
Original file name: VFWCodecs.exe
How can the newly (today) relased instaler be still called v1 then? |

| If one uses the v1.0 installer, one will be able to use Matrox avi's with any Premiere Pro version w/o Matrox hardware. This will enable any Axio user to upgrade to CS5 w/o Matrox hardware and software and use Matrox avi's. This codec utility will not allow you to export from AME to Matrox codecs in CS5. |

I'm confused as well!
It's billed as an M.Key replacement, and in the PDF supplied with it Matrox give instructions on how to set variables after you select the Matrox export preset 'in your software'.
Yet when I install the pack I get no such settings in Premiere CS5 or CS3.
What would be the use of a codec pack that allows you to edit files on a non AXIO based machine that you have captured on an AXIO system?
It would be the other way round that you would want it, set up a project and capture/ingest in the field, then transfer the files to your main system to finish off.
Can anyone at Matrox clear this up please?
Cos for me it doesn't make sense - or work!
Phil. |

The issue is there are TWO v1.0 installers released by Matrox. One dated 204 the other 2010.
THAT is the question that started this thread. |

This will enable any Axio user to upgrade to CS5 w/o Matrox hardware and software and use Matrox avi's that were produced from footage digitized with Matrox Axio. I have years worth of Matrox Axio projects. Thanks to this new utility, I can now upgrade to CS5 even though I can't use the Matrox Axio but at least I don't have to re-digitize all of the plethora of clips I've accumulated over the years... This is exactly what I (and probably most of us) have been waiting for. Matrox also released this utility to stop all the whining about when Axio drivers will be available for CS5. (Of course that's just a theory!) |

On all SD projects that was the case for the last 5-6 years with the v1 utility that I had. The USB dongle was only required for HD files. I understand that now there is another v1 that allows the same for HD files as well. As a starter of this thread my question is which v1 is which? Why are there two different v1's?
Matrox do you really monitor this forum or have you left your mega-bucks paid users behind? |

Thank you.
Does that mean that you now have two version 1s: Dated 5 May 2010 and dated 11 November 2005?
Am I correct? |

Hi,
There are two available versions on our download section. The Legacy (old) format is in fact an older Matrox VFW codec build version and as mentioned in our Description section of Download wizard: | Quote: | | Installs the legacy Matrox VFW sofware codecs, which have been superseded by version 1.0. |
The latest Matrox VFW codec 1.0 version is a newer introduction to VFW codec and build version which is dated May 2010. Please use this latest version for your current setup.
Regards,
Sam |

I can understand that but I am a system admin. We normally differantiate files after they have been downloaded via their file version numbers.
As far as I can see you have named both the new file and the legacy file as version 1. Isn't that the case? |

The list of the VFW codec installer files I have in our system is below. These are from the verious DVD installer disks you sent us over the time.
File name - version nr - File date
VFWCodecs.exe - 1.0.0.11 - 11/11/2005
VFWCodecs.exe - 1.0.0.35 - 27/02/2008
VFWCodecs.exe - n/a - 12/112009
VFWCodecs_10.exe - n/a - 12/04/2010
It looks like you guys there like to call everything version 1. What a Royal Canadian mess that is! Version numbering 101 anyone?
So the file which is named VFWCodecs_10.exe is the latest installer and anything named VFWCodecs.exe are the old legacy installers. Please verify this.
Thank you
