Hi,

The Mac works with .mov files, and Matrox does not create codecs with .mov file extension.
You can try converting the AVI files to MOV files by either exporting to Quicktime through Premiere or using a 3rd-party softwares to convert the AVI to MOV file format.

Hope this information helps.

Can anyone suggest the best codec to use and method to convert from the Matrox 1920*1080i codec, to one that is compatible in Final Cut Pro? Many thanks.

I don't know if it's the "best" codec to use but I recommend using the H.264 (aka AVC) video codec. It can produce very good looking video with the proper settings and is compatible with everything I've ever tried.
